its skeleton its shield, now waits to lunge…”
the island grows its own peculiar species…
Josef Stalin stood beside me
in my parents’ bedroom…
Imperiously accomplished coilings and uncoilings …
In the endless wintertime
we ice-skate on the black canals …
I imagine my heart exploding …
A seagull pecks a clamshell
on a windswept beach.
