Two Cowpokes

Another workshop exercise — "write a poem in couplets." Easier said than done, my friend, especially when you are starved for subject matter. Where the two cowboys came from is anybody’s guess, but here they are, singing to an orange sky. I am open to interpretation.
Beneath an orange sky
Two cowboys sang
One in Arizona, one nearby
18-wheelers and the cars on I-10
rumbled past the Arizona hombre
as he sang so no one heard.
That nearby cowpoke lifted up
his weathered face and
lifted up his song into the
orange sky
leaves fell around him
he ignored them
autumnal was his song
and his demeanor downcast
even though his face was lifted up,
uplifted toward the orange sky.
no cars no trucks drowned out his song
the sun sank down in silence
weeping has no place in poetry
but some wept to hear him.
