Pedestrian becomes Cyclist

TMP is traveling in a non-pedestrian manner to Austria for two weeks, bicycling around in the Salzkammergut. Meanwhile, please ramble around on the site. There’s a lot of poetry here now, not all of it mine. Post your comments if you’re in the mood — the feedback is the most fun and gratifying thing about the blog. When I return, maybe I’ll have been inspired by the Tyrol. Or maybe, while biking alongside a sparkling stream, I’ll remember something that happened to me involving a stream in Vermont when I was nine. And it’ll suddenly seem significant and become a poem.

Hoping you and Holly will return with as much enthusiasm about your trip as I had about Ireland. You might have a new subscriber to TMP. I sat next to a nice fellow from Wisconsin on the flight home. He loves poetry so I gave him your website. His name is Dennis Rude.

  2. Stephen Merriam Foley Says:

    Looking for the Celts

The Duchess of Mecklenburg straightens her back,
    surveys her fellow enthusiasts,
all digging in soft Salzkammergut rain.
She swaps her mattock for a favourite pick,
glances up at the Hallstatt peak
then, rested, tackles the grave again…

some lines from Gwyneth Lewis; there are more and it’s worth reading
