The Abyss

The Abyss
I stand before a canyon
lit gaudily by setting sun.
Striated by the laminae of eons
its walls bear bones and shells
the calcified remains
of creatures of no consciousness
who died with no regrets.
In the perfected
millennia to come
will they say we were the first
species capable of dying unfulfilled?
And will we be the last, I wonder
as I stare out at the narrowing
chasm of the years ahead.

I like it. This is your impressive new voice. You’ve come of age… just in time, before you fall into the
abyss.

Ouuuuuu…..I really appreciate your ’stuff’. How about writing some really cheerful ’stuff’ to balance out the deep and dark ?
Just for us ‘polyannas’ (sp?).
